Microtronix was founded in 1990 as a semiconductor technology company. Microtronix is focusing on semiconductor technologies for non volatile memory applications and three dimensional semiconductor devices.

In cooperation with university partners and corporate alliances Microtronix developed a basic ferroelectric non- volatile memory technology with emphasis on chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of thin film ferroelectrics such as Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) and Strontium Bismuth Titanate (SBT). COVA Technologies Inc. (www.covatech.com) , a spin off company of Microtronix, is commercializing certain aspects of this technology: A novel Flash Evaporation and Liquid Delivery System (FELD).

Microtronix also developed a novel MEMs technology, called WaferStak™, that allows stacking of semiconductor chips, wafers or portions of wafers to form three dimensional semiconductor devices. This development was again performed in cooperation with University partners and corporate alliances. HiPoint Technology (www.hi-point.com), another spin off of Microtronix, is commercializing aspects of the basic WaferStak technology. The first application of WaferStak is to build miniaturized RFID antennas directly on the silicon chips.
